LIVING TRADITIONS: IRELAND

A 11-Day Journey with Leah Song & Wild Routes Ireland
August 31 – September 10, 2026

Embark on a captivating 11-day journey with Tara De Róiste and Chris Gambatesa of Wild Routes Ireland & Leah Song of Rising Appalachia.

Delve into the heart of Ireland's vibrant cultural heritage through traditional ways of living in relationship with a land where story, craft, and song are woven together. Our adventure will lead us to places steeped in ecological, archaeological, and cultural significance in the western wilds of Ireland. Discover hidden stone circles on secluded hillsides, engage with local artisans in their workshops, wander through ancient forests, and visit islands that are living libraries preserving Ireland’s native language and heritage.

We’ll visit stone carvers and woodworkers, learn about basketry and traditional food preservation techniques, and experience the wild landscapes that make it all possible. Get to know the craftspeople and storytellers keeping the skills and spirit of this enchanted island alive.

Living Traditions will weave you into a tapestry of skills, stories, songs and places of kinship with the land and its history. Lose yourself in the rich narratives of ancient folklore, tales of fairy folk, lilting melodies, and the wisdom of generations past while experiencing the myriad of ways these vibrant traditions still thrive. Join us in crafting lasting memories that bridge the gap between past and present, between this world and the other.

Leah's Offerings During the Tour

SOMATICS & SONGS

Leah Song’s vocal workshops explore sound vibration and body movement as tools for self-awareness and sound. The space is created to help each participant to embody the physical art of making sound from all the many resonators in the body.

This workshop utilizes the expressions through movement and music using a variety of techniques including vocal contact improv, creative sound improvisations, group harmonics, singing techniques and movement (drawing upon yoga, contact improv, martial arts, and modern dance).

Exploring the intersection of music, mythology, storytelling, and ancestral wisdom, we will be guided in rediscovering ancestral traditions, reclaiming folk music as a tool for healing, and engaging in meaningful dialogue about land, lineage, and the human experience.

AN EVENING FIRESIDE CONCERT WITH LEAH SONG

We will be treated one evening during our time together to a cosy & intimate fireside concert with Leah. As a soloist, she incorporates sultry vocals, storytelling, folklore, ballads, and boleros into her laid-back troubadour performances. Her music is based on the traditions of Southern soul, the diasporic music of the Celtic Isles, and her deep studies of traditional folk music from across the Americas.
